Seventy-five years after Joseph Stalin's reign of terror across Eastern Europe, entertainment journalist Greg Archer takes a step back from Hollywood and examines his Polish family's mind-bending odyssey of the 1940s. In the process, he exposes one of the most under-reported events of the 20th Century: Stalin's mass deportation of nearly two million Polish citizens to the Siberian gulags and the life-shattering events that followed.
But the author's quest takes a dramatic turn. As he walks an emotional tightrope between the past and the present, can a serendipitous global adventure become a saving grace, heal the ancestral soul and bring justice to his family and their forgotten Polish comrades?

A raw and wrenchingly beautiful ride from the present to the past...
By cara wilson granat
"Grace Revealed", by author Greg Archer, absolutely sucker-punches you into a reality most of us never even realized happened over 70 years ago. Artfully written, with even some humor woven into the mix, Archer's deft gift of balancing drama with pathos grabs the reader by surprise. Pulled from the world of glitz and glamor and red carpet flash,we are drawn into a reign of terror in which nearly two million Polish citizens were deported to the Siberian Gulags--with violent atrocities carried out by Stalin himself. This is the world of Greg Archer's Polish ancestors, many of them suffering horrors beyond words. Their distant cries for help resounded within Archer, as he began to follow the signs to a past he never knew existed. As if in a trance, Greg knows he must leave the world he was in to help his long-lost relatives finally get the chance to be heard after years of torture and horrific atrocities. In his quest to find the blood-curling answers from his past, Archer discovers something that shakes him to the core----the resilience of the human spirit; and surprisingly, his own voice shouting to be heard as well. It's impossible not to become transformed--profoundly awakened to what is truly important after reading Grace Revealed, for Greg Archer uncovers a revelation of grace we all have within us and never realized. This is a must-read for everyone who values the rich and painful, yet beautiful lessons of our own past as the very foundation for the present and future. That, and the power of and need for connection to our heritage, our families, our DNA--who remind us who we are and why we're here. No one stands alone...

To Be Surprised
By Eric Sassaman
Following the notion of "full disclosure," I must admit that I spent, off and on, the past 7 years aiding in the research for this book. When I first came to this project I was completely unaware to the WW2 events that changed millions of Polish people's lives - the events documented within the covers of this memoir. Being a part of this project educated me and opened my eyes, giving me a greater understanding of the World before my time in it. In that respect, I opened this book expecting much of its historical detail. What I was not prepared for was the provocative journey the author himself found himself taking.
Unlike many books about historical events, this work avoids the over-written, often cumbersome and numbing tone one has come to expect. It is not a text book with a million extra adjectives inserted in order to find it's place on Amazon instead of on the shelf of a college bookstore. Mr. Archer has created an experience that is both deeply personal and historical while not being overly self-indulgent. The key to doing this successfully I can only attribute to one thing, his voice.
To steal a phrase from Larry Wilmore of "The Nightly Show," Mr Archer "keeps it 100," and in doing so makes his story automatically relatable. There is a comfortable fluidity to his style here that is familiar and conversational, almost as though you could imagine a friend returning from a trip and telling you of his travels over a cup of coffee or a champagne cocktail. I tend to think that such an approach would be risky for a writer and possibly disingenuous for the reader, but Archer's voice is never less than honest, natural and unusually self-aware and reflective without being contrived. The nature of life is something that is touching, horrifying, ponderous, funny, elusive, enlightening, sometimes fast-paced, sometimes coasting, serendipitous and wondrous and Mr. Archer understands such rhythms and embraces them and in doing so his discoveries become our own.
I must admit that having been a part of this project and a friend of the author, I was a bit scared to read the finished work. I was ready to have to try and find noncommittal words to have at the ready when the inevitable "What did you think" question came up. Turns out that I was wasting energy doing so and feel guilty for even thinking I'd have to. Mr. Archer surprised me both as a friend and as a reader. There is much to behold and relish within the pages that document his journey, a journey that thankfully he is inviting you to take along with him. I suggest that you accept his invitation. Be surprised.

A Book of Endurance and Transformation
By Dorothee Callmann
Grace Revealed – A book of Endurance and Transformation
I wish to state up front that I am a friend of the author. I have done my best to stand back and be objective. I also wish to reveal that I was born in a foreign country who escaped the horrors of Hitler, and so my empathy for refugees who underwent years of unimaginable hardship is admittedly beyond measure.
Interestingly, this uplifting and unique memoir was born when a framed photograph of the author’s large and loving Polish family came crashing to the floor from its place on the wall… its glass frame smashed to bits. A fervent believer in “signs from the universe,” Archer felt this had to be a sign from the universe telling him to do something he had long contemplated: namely, to write his family’s near-death journey when forced to flee Poland during Stalin’s reign of tyranny.
Archer visited the small towns in Poland… entering the churches of their past, speaking to citizens who might have known them, researching the circumstances of their former lives. And the coincidences that befell him in his journey are an engrossing part of the magic of this book… and the Grace of its title.
An award-winning journalist, Archer interviewed his surviving relatives, and there are chapters in which these awesome survivors describe the horrors of those years in their own powerful words.
Archer is also a performance artist with a genuine talent for sharing his own personal travails with an impressive degree of honesty and delightful humor. The chapters in which he relates his own growth and transformation as a result of undertaking this challenging book is an added dividend to these moving stories from this important period in history.
