I never knew about “fitting models” whose bodies are perfect for those who make all sorts of clothes women ...

I was filled with admiration reading Wendy Stuart’s “Last Model Standing” as she described the excitement that following unexpected roads took her to. I learned something new on every page – first of all, that models are people. Wendy was not just some shell on a runway, in fact she hasn’t been on runways that much at all. I never knew about “fitting models” whose bodies are perfect for those who make all sorts of clothes women wear (“I cover the asses of the masses” she says). And still doing so and gorgeous over 50. Not that she hasn’t been “seen” – in True Confessions Magazine stories! But she had other dreams – going to Nigeria as a college student, Jean Harlow-dyed hair and all, studying voodoo and medical practices you won’t see back home, describing, still full of wonder, the places the fates took her, including the havoc wreaked by revolution. She was drawn by what struck her from childhood as seeking out more mystery than her native Bronx had supplied. Back home in New York, she made it past the ropes of Studio 54 and chatted with Andy Warhol. Her love of animals has led her to crusade for justice for them through the years. She reminisces on her role model, her mother, who was fifth runner up in the Miss America contest, and who knew how to handle things when the glamour moved out of reach and money was tight. The sections about her stand-up schtick and the stories about the exploits of the American Banana Company Theatre group were fun

A highly entertaining book that covers a lot of fascinating ground in a concise, easy-to-follow, format. The sections about her stand-up schtick and the stories about the exploits of the American Banana Company Theatre group were funny enough to bring tears to my eyes. Wendy is a serious person who has become more dedicated over the years to the plight of wild animals. If she were not already living with a small menagerie in her New York City apartment, I'm sure she would attempt to adopt the whole animal kingdom, put them in designer underwear and teach them the fine tricks of makeup.

Fascinating, Fun Read

I ordered the paperback copy of Wendy Stuart’s “She’s the Last Model Standing" today but I also downloaded the Kindle version for my IPad. I expected it to be hilariously funny, totally captivating and exceptionally interesting, but Wendy exceeded even my wildest expectations. Once I started reading, I couldn't stop.
