About the Author
Thomas Jefferson is best known as the author of America's Declaration of Independence. He was a delegate to the Continental Congress during the Rebellion. He also served as Governor of Virginia, Ambassador to France, and third President of the United States. Doug Good is a teacher who began paraphrasing classic books to encourage his history students to enter the trenches of the past through tighter, yet complete versions of books written by the makers of history (a device that increases the chances the students will actually do the assigned reading.) Powerful Read!

Powerful read! I could not put the book down and felt I lived the story right along with all the characters involved. It brings new awareness to a very dark side of humanity that must be brought to light. Thank you Deanne Acuna and her team for their incredible courage and bravery. And may all those innocent hearts be healed with love and grace.

Thank you Jim Hindman for bringing your expertise to the challenge of an age-related progressive disease, macular degeneration, that leads, eventually, to blindness. This book tells his life story beautifully in an easy to read format along with the latest research, tips and resources to guide you. Best of all the proceeds from the sale of this book will go to education, rehabilitation, and research for macular degeneration and low vision efforts.

How a remarkable man overcame enormous obstacles

This excellent book is both a study on age-related macular degeneration and the autobiography of a remarkable man. It takes the reader along on the amazing journey of a disadvantaged boy from living on the streets and a children's home to becoming a high powered entrepreneur who started 3 companies, 2 of which became public. Jim Hindman is best known as the founder of Jiffy Lube, but his unwavering perseverance resulted in success in everything he attempted, including regaining his vision after severe macular degeneration. His story should inspire every reader to endeavor to overcome all obstacles in life.

If you have a brain, read this book

I picked up Damage Control because Mary Spears is my cousin, but I continued reading Damage Control because it's well written & filled with insights for the brain damaged, the non-brain damaged, & their families & friends. My aging parents both have noticeably deteriorating brains, & I've done a lot of reading about their issues. Despite that, Phil's & Mary's research & personal insights gave me new perspectives on what Mom & Dad are going through & ways that I might be able to help them - & myself. Phil Slott is a very special person, with drive & brilliance most of us won't achieve. But his self-discipline & clear thinking, plus Mary's love & loyalty, make for wonderful, life-enhancing role models. Equally important, they tell a good story.

Despite the odds Phil and Mary have managed to teach and inspire all of us through their passion for living and their determination to appreciate each moment of life and to achieve their highest potential..
Their book brings home love, strength and a commitment to living life to the fullest and highest potential.
Mary and Phil are on my top five most inspirational people in the world. Despite Phil's injuries he continued to write books and on a personal level pushed me to think way beyond my comfort level. Phil truly is a genius- physically and cerebrally. Mary Spears is an inspiration and guiding light for me in my life. Phil ever the ad mans says it best : " if you have a Mary who’s helped you come back for eighteen years—count your blessings out loud and never let her go. "

I too, am a TV I survivor.

I had a different king of TV I. Mine was a benign brain tumor in the hypothalamus, that has caused me immense neurological problems. I wish this book was out sooner. There was a time when I was depressed and anxious. I am happier now, despite still having a physical disability. The advice and the emotions put into this book, are amazing.

About the Author
Rosina Rucci was born and raised in South Philadelphia. A graduate degree in Journalism from that city’s Temple University led to work in Rome, Italy where she served as Promotions Manager for the children’s channel of the ORBIT Satellite Television and Radio Network. An extraordinary twelve years of life in Rome gave her knowledge of the city, fluency in the Italian language, and her adored son Luca who was born there in 1997. Though South Philadelphia is her beloved birthplace, Italy is her true home and though leaving it in 2003 was difficult, she was thrilled at the chance to work alongside her brother, renowned fashion designer, Ralph Rucci of New York City, as Director of Communications. She has since returned to South Philadelphia, where she currently resides, where her son attends school and where this deeply personal story was born.

I didn't read it...I swallowed it.

I started it at 11pm last night and couldn't wait for evening to come so I could get back to it. 24 hours later, with a few spent tissues, I am spellbound. Growing up in Philadelphia, I was always most intrigued with the well publicized stories of the relatively peaceful Angelo Bruno era followed by the reckless and ruthless Scarfo regime. Years later, I loved The Sopranos for the wonderful glimpses of the family men and double lives lead by these guys, but this story is REAL and written so soulfully by the girl next door. "Intriguing" doesn't begin to cover it. it's funny but also such a poignant love story.

The author artfully transports us back and forth, in time and between her two homes. And between the two worlds of her hero. This is a slice of life you'll want to savor but will likely scarf down, as I did. It's just that good.

All I can say is that everyone who has loved and lost should read this beautiful love story. Beautifully written with nostalgic descriptions of the South Philadelphia neighborhood that the author calls home. I read this book in one sitting and did not want it to end. A true love story.

Could Not Put This Down!

I bought this book after watching Inside The American Mob on Netflix. When I got to the episode involving the Philly Mob and the Scarfo regime, there was a part that was talking about Salvatore Testa and his being the son of a Philly Mob boss and how Nicky Scarfo had ordered him murdered because of his so called "popularity". I saw the face of a handsome young man who had grown up into the mob because of his father and family connections to the Philly mafia. I kept thinking that there had to be another side to this man, a personal side but of course he was dead so just out of curiosity, I searched his name through Amazon and this book came up. I am so glad that Ms. Rucci wrote this book because it did show that he had another side to him, something that he could keep separate and it showed that he was human with a love for someone that, had he been able to get out of the "family" could've had a lifetime of memories with. My heart broke in a couple of places and I felt so bad for her. I feel that there was a true love between them despite what some other reviewers have said. I bought the Kindle version and finished reading it in a couple of hours. I couldn't put it down and was so sad when I was done because I wanted more. At least she has the memories and special times she shared with him. Buy this book and read about one woman's love for a man who had he had the chance could've had more than 6000 days with the love of his life.

Good story; cumbersome telling of it

This is the honest sharing of a misdiagnosed transgender who was ultimately transformed by the power of God. While I appreciated the story, the delivery of it was arduous; if it could be streamlined it would be more effective. Overuse of intensifiers such as "very" and "extremely" was distracting.

As his pastor writes, "I believe the Spirit was leading us [as a church] into a new level of obedience and trust. I had some sense that how we dealt with Laura [Walt's 'alter ego'] would determine the type of leaders and the type of church we would be." They persevered in helping her through a prolonged and very rocky period with only one short break, when after asking her not to come back to the church, each and every elder apologized to her on the phone for making what they realized was a mistake, out of fear. They were able to work with her because "while Laura's past choices were, by her own admission at best foolish and destructive, her longing to honor God in the midst of her pain and willingness to follow the truth were apparent." And God is honored, in Ken's story and in this book. Several other of Ken's counsellors and friends speak in this book, and even the doctor who performed his gender reassignment surgery, whose deathbed confession (reproduced in the book) that the operation had been a "mistake" proved crucial in the path to Ken's healing. Ken has now been sober for 31 years and married for 19 years, so this is no flash in the pan. An incredibly uplifting read, in the same way that "Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert" is (especially the new edition with a chapter written by the author's first pastor). If you find the "pre" story too turgid, start halfway through the book and trace the thread of God's power in Ken's life. You'll want to read the first half when you've finished! I learnt about Ken through an article in Christianity Today.

"2 Years 4 Months 2 Hours is story of love based on passion and persistence. It all started when a young Italian woman working in a hotel in London spots a young American guy staying at the hotel. They share a glance at one point but never speak. She then writes him a note which her co-worker personally delivers on her day off. Their relationship starts there - and is built over time based on this one-time fleeting contact in the lobby of the hotel. Their relationship is initially created over the common ground of travel and the book begins with a series of emails they share with each other over a span of several months. As one pursues a long distance relationship deeply there is certainly the risk of doing so - emotionally investing in someone so far away with such limited in- person together time - that the relationship must be built on one of trust. Ultimately for it to work one must physically move somewhere to be with the other person. Hardships during these types of relationships are compounded by the distance from each other. And the story is not all flowers and sweet kisses - long distance breeds complications and at times the read is an emotional roller coaster. However, Chiara is persistent and courageous and pursues Tyler when perhaps others might have given up on such a relationship. The story really begins in the second chapter. From that moment, I couldn't leave the book until the last page!
Incredible story of a woman who fights through thick and thin for the man she loves.
Very nice travel diary as well. It will make you want to travel!

A heart-piercing journey

I am usually not very much attracted by so-called « love stories ». But I really enjoyed reading Chiara Townley’s book « 2 years 4 months 2 hours » because it is much more than a romantic love story. This book is like a journey. You get to know the two main characters, Chiara and Tylor, at the same time and through the same letters that they got to know each others. Both of them are travel lovers, and you get to know the World through their eyes.
As a reader, I didn’t want the journey to finish. But on the other hand I was hoping that the two main characters would be able to live fully their genuine love.
The story is especially heart-piercing because it is a true one. Chiara & Tylor, I wish you all the best!

More than a love story

“2 years 4 Months 2 hours” is more than a love story. It’s more than a lucky coincidence of two people meeting and falling in love. “2 Years 4 Months 2 Hours” is, above all, the story of an initiation, of a growing process getting to know one another through an exchange of letters.

Chiara and Tyler meet briefly in London, in a hotel lobby. Then he leaves for a three months’ journey in South America. From that moment on, they begin to write each other. They both like travelling, so they write a lot about their travel experiences. Little by little, however, letters make them feel closer to one another, they feel they miss each other and they long to meet again. They aren’t two travellers who like writing to each other anymore; they become two people in love. When they meet in London again, it will be an enchanting time unforgettable for any reader.

“2 Years 4 Months 2 Hours” goes through several chapters before getting to an end, and the author keeps our interest high giving a more extensive meaning to her private story: reflections, remarks. Special emphasis is given to Nature and the sound of the Ocean. It’s the picture of the world gazed in wonder and hope through the eyes of a young woman.

Highly disappointing

Kurt Jensen does deliver a handful of serial murder cases and some insight into the creation and motives of serial killers as mentioned in the book description. However, the case information isn't presented in any way that is easy to follow - some major editing and elimination of typos and grammar mistakes may help - and contains much of the author's own speculation. What creates a serial killer and what makes them "tick"? That information is a simplification of information found in many other sources and there are no resources stated for further study or to use to verify what the author has stated. One of the positive things was that it was free.

I was very impressed by this book, it was interesting to read about the psychology behind serial killers and their heinous. It even included some cases and the events behind them. Things I never even heard about. I would recommend this to anyone interested in true crimes of the past

I gave the book 4 stars as I found it informative but was disappointed that it was so short. There is so much more that could have been discussed but as a quick, informative, well written book it was pretty good.

great chapter on Asoka who embraced Buddhism and did a great service to it

A well researched and well written book on Indian religion and Buddhist history. Sadly Buddhism is largely extinct from the Continent, except for perhaps the Tibetan refugee and Government in exile. India now is Hindu and Muslim, with the Muslim religion outpacing the Hindu due to their uncontrolled birthrate and lack of family planning. The book has a great chapter on Asoka who embraced Buddhism and did a great service to it. The chapter on pali books also very illuminating. (written on palm leafs.) This book is available online for free. Check it out for yourself, do not take my word for it.
